Notes |
- Carl F. and brother George S. Wehrwein were Ph.D agricultural economists, both teaching in the 1930s at their alma mater, Univ of Wisconsin, Madison. When the legislature enacted a nepotism law that affected employment at the University, the younger Carl left to work for the Agriculture Dept in the Oakland CA area. Carl transferred to Washington in 1941 and 1948-50 to Vienna, Austria for a couple of years with the Marshal Plan.
Brother George authored with Richard T. Ely a textbook on Land Economics, still cited today, and is honored as a founder of the department per the attached.
The Wehrwein family tree is fairly well organized internationally back to 1500. This branch came to Wisconsin around 1850.
