- LDS FamilySearch (http://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.2.1/94GY-7MK : accessed 2013-10-12), entry for Henry Thomas:
"In the autobiography of Martha P. Jones Thomas, she says:
'We now bade farewell to all kindred, which was a sad affair, especially to father and mother Thomas. They belonged to the Church but were too old to stand the journey. Brother Woodruff had blessed them and said they would yet stand in Zion. So they did, for we sent for them and in the fall they came by water. They soon died and were buried side by side on Long Creek, Missouri.
Father was a revolutionary soldier under Washington. He was 84 years old and Mother, 78. This ends 1837.'
From the Journal of Elder Wilford Woodruff:
'June 9th, we preached at Damon's creek,[Calloway County] Kentucky, and brother Patten rebuked strongly some wicked men who had gathered together as a mob. At the close of the meeting, he went to the water and baptized two; one was Father Henry Thomas the father of Daniel and Henry Thomas, some 80 years of age; he was a revolutionary soldier, and had served under General George Washington.'
Served in the Rev. Armed Forces as a private in the Virginia Continental Line for three years. He was enlisted on 11 Feb 1777 by his brother Lt. Lewis Thomas (later Capt. Lewis Thomas) in Capt. Neal's Company, which was attached to the Thirteenth Virginia Regiment, and then belonged to Capt. Uriah Springer's Company of Col. John Gibson's Regiment, and was discharged at Fort Pitt, by Col. Richard Campbell, March 1, 1780. - See "Hardin and Harding of Va. and Ky." compiled by Dorothy Wulfeck, 1965 supplement p. xviii. Believed to have served under Gen. George Washington according to statements by Martha Pane Jones Thomas in the "History of Daniel Stillwell Thomas" and Elder Wilford Woodruff.
Listed in DAR Patriot Index as Private from Va. Family Records and Information Family Group Archive Sheet Occupation: Revolutionary War Soldier Henry is listed as surety in the marriage of Enos Thomas to Mary Kinnison and Hardin Thomas to Hetta Garret, December 12, 1789 and February 24, 1789, in Nelson County, Ky."
