The following obit for Edna appeared in the August 12, 1981 Journal:
PIFER, EDNA W, 76, of Middleway, died at the Jefferson Memorial Hospital Tuesday. Born in Jefferson County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Dema Whittington Nicely. Mrs. Pifer was a member of the Middleway UM Church. She was the widow of George A Pifer.
She is Survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Light, Clearbrook, Mrs. Betty W Nicodemus, Middleway; and Mrs., Edna May Owens, Brucetown, Va.; four sons, Mason Pifer, Charles Town; William C Pifer Sr., Francis Pifer and George Pifer, all of Middleway; 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; three brothers, Harry L, James F and Lawrence Nicely. One daughter, Dorothy Longerbeam, preceded in death.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday at the Melvin T Strider Colonial Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Frum officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery, Middleway. Friends will be received this evening and Thursday from 7-9 PM; grandsons will serve as bearers.
