"Emelia (Emily) Lindsey was b. Ireland, 25 Nov 1782, and d. 28 Jul 1864 in Marion County, KY. She married about 1820-1822 Owen Davies Thomas, b. 3 May 1787 d. 27 Jul 1851. He was a son of Owen Thomas, a Captain in he Revolutionary Army; [Owen] was present at the Surrender of General Cornwallis, at Yorktown, VA. A cane which [Owen] carried at that time has been handed down to his grandson, Owen D. Thomas, a resident of Lebanon County, KY (1927).
It is related of Mrs. Emily Thomas that she was wonderfully gifted in prayer, and upon one occasion while Thomas Marshall was agues, and recovering from a recent illness, he was invited to come down to family prayers. He accepted and returning to his room with Mrs. Thomas' nephew, Ralph Ward [Marshall] said, "I went down to hear an old lady mumble her prayers; they say I am eloquent, but I cannot equal her. . . ."
