  • Name Eugene H. Peck
    Nickname Jean H. Peck
Born 9 Sep 1884  Pleasant Hill, De Soto County, MI Find all individuals with events at this location
    • Since I found Emma M. Peck living with her Aunt and Uncle in Pleasant Hill, DeSoto County, Mississippi I am guessing there is where Eugene was born.
      Dave Howard August 2009
    • In 1900 US Census for Helena, Phillips, Arkansas his age is given as 15 and his birth date is Sep 1884. Other relatives show his birth date in 1880. In this Census record Dan W Peck is shown as 51, Mary Peck 41, Emma M Peck as 22, Eugene H Peck 15, Leo F Peck 12 there are two others living in the home. Jesse Harris 14 and Maude Hampton age 20.

The Social Security death index shows he was born in 1888. He may have been like his father in that he got younger and younger as time passed.

For now I am going with the 1884 date however the 1880 makes the most sense to me because Daniel and Mary got married earlier in 1880. The fact she was pregnant may have forced Daniel to the altar.

      Who knows?

    • It appears that Eugene changed to dressing and acting as a woman later in life and went by the name Jean. He never married. He designed and made hats. He lived with his 1/2 sister Emma, a seamstress, in St. Louis.

The Peck family records in Clinton, Indiana tell of a visit by Daniel Webster Peck with his two daughters. These daughters must have been Emma and Jean.

    Census Records
U.S. Census Helena, Phillips, AR 1880: D.W. Peck Family
U.S. Census Helena, Phillips, AR 1880: D.W. Peck Family
The census record show D.W. Peck born in Iowa and parents both born in Iowa, age 42 (b. 1838) recently married to May Peck age 23 who is occupied as a brick mason. They are living on Walnut Street in Helena.

The 1850 Census indicates that he lived in Iowa then. Maybe that is his basis for saying he was from Iowa.

I am wondering where their daughter Emma was. (I believe I found her living with her Aunt and Uncle in Pleasant Hill, Mississippi.)

Daniel was on the lamb. He was actually 48 years old. The record indicates that he had only recently gotten married.

Emma M, daughter born Jan 1878 is age 22.
