"Enlisted June 3, 1861 in Wise County Courthouse, VA in the 'Wise Yankee Catchers' (Capt. Logan Salyer's company). He was also on the rolls of Co. C 4th Virginia State Line. He fought in the early West Virginia campaign. He was wounded at Fort Donelson, TN on Feb. 15, 1862. Discharged on account of that wound on May 14,1862 at Wytheville, VA. After the war he served as County Clerk of Dickerson County, VA."
