Francis E. "Gus" Pifer, 65, of Middleway, WV, died Thursday, July 31, 2003, at Shenandoah Health Village Center, Charles Town, WV
Mr. Pifer was born Oct. 17, 1937, in Wadesville, the son of George C. and Edna W. (Nicely) Pifer.
He was employed by the police department at FEMA in Bluemont. He was a member of Middleway United Methodist Church. He graduated from Charles Town High School in 1956. He was a member of the Citizens Fire Company, Charles Town, and a member of the Better with Age Antique Car Club. He was an Army veteran.
He was married to Joyce M. (Drish) Pifer for 41 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Francis "Gene" Pifer II of Ranson; two daughters, Tammy M. Johnson of Summit Point, WV, and Sarah L. Arscott of Charles Town; two sisters, Edna Owens of Brucetown and Betty Nicodemus of Middleway; one brother, William C. Pifer of Middleway; and three grandchildren (Aaron Johnson, Desmond Shiflett and Deion Shiflett); two sisters, Edna Owens, of Brucetown, VA and Betty Nicodemus of Millway, WV; and one brother, William C Pifer of Middleway, WV). He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Dorothy Longerbeam and Mary Leight; and two brothers, George "Porky" Pifer and Mason M Pifer.
A funeral will be 11 A.M. Saturday at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, with the Rev. Jim Embrey and the Rev. Henry Styron officiating. Burial will be in Middleway Masonic Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 9 P.M. tonight at the funeral home.
