The following obit for George appeared in the 9-10-1987 Journal:
Piper, George, Wayne "Porky", 45, of 205 Fifth Avenue, Ranson, died Wednesday at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson. Born in Wadesville, VA, he was the son of the late George C and Edna Nicely Pifer. He retired from the Super Tane Gas Company in Ranson. He was a member of the Middleway United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, M. Diane Pifer, at home; one daughter, Georgianna L Pifer, at home; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Leight of Winchester, VA; Betty Nicodemus of Middleway and Edna Mae Owens of Brucetown, VA; three brothers, Mason M Pifer of Charels Town, William C Pifer and Frances Pifer, both of Middleway.
Services will be held 2 PM Friday at Melvin T Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town with the Rev. Charles Frum officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens. Friends will be received at the funeral home 7-9 PM today.
