Notes |
- Phil Margetts a well-known actor from early pioneer days, began his career soon after his arrival in Utah in 1850. As one of the original participants in the first drama group in Salt Lake, he reportedly spoke the first line in the first play performed in the Territory of Utah. He worked as a blacksmith and mechanic to earn a living for his family, but his true love was acting. He was remembered for his comedic roles. He performed in early productions in the Bowery, Social Hall, and eventually in the Salt Lake Theater.
The Margetts Theater, one of three housed by the Harris Fine Arts Center at BYU, is named for this well-loved actor.
