- The Rezekne marriage records show that Haya Dobe, daughter of Genech-Hirsch Hurvitch, age 22, married Aron-Morduch, son of Nochum Michel Rubin, also age 22 on 22 Jul 1895. The marriage was witnessed by Yuda Shvalb and Abo Lifshitz. The record is at LSHA, 4361-2-2-13ob,14 and was researched by Aleksandrs Feignmanis.
The 1897 All Russia census for Rezekne shows Ahron Nochom Rubin son of Haim Rubin, age 31, a small trader living in the home of Raphal Gilka Notkin on Bolshaya Verenikovkaya Street in Rezekne, record 2706-1-157, with his wife, Haja Doba Rubin, age 27, daughter of Genoch.
I thought Bessie told me her name was Tsore (Sara) however, it could have been Khaysore (life of Sara). Dobe is a name derived from the Czech language meaning good and related to the Yiddish name Gute.
I can't believe that these two families are not the same. I would believe the age and name information on the marriage record more than the census record. I have found the census record ages to be off.
I had the name of Sara's husband as Eliah but that does not fit with Ahron Morduch. Perhaps there was confusion with Eliah Horwitz the husband of Gute who died in Rezekne in 1906?
Until I have evidence to the contrary I am presenting Haya Dobe as our Sara.
