"John Smyre was a patriot in the Revolutionary War and furnished supplies according to records. He was born on 16 June 1752 and died 8 Jan 1846. On 17 May 1785, John Smyre married to Matilda Othello Bost, who was born in 1764 and died in 1834. She would have been about seventy when she died.
John is listed with the Daughters of the American Revolution as John Schmeyer/Smyer. In 1818 John gave land to Old St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The deed is recorded in Book 28 page 256 in Lincoln County, NC. According to sources, the Smyers family was among those instrumental in progression of the Lutheran denomination in North Carolina.
