"Golf Champ Norton Harris, 80, dies while playing 18th hole"
As he had so many times before, Norton Harris teed off from the 18th hole on Tuesday and headed down the fairway at Lucerne Lakes Golf Course.
But as the 80-year-old, three-time senior amateur golf champion appraoched his ball, Mr. Harris collapsed and died of cardiac arrest.
"We felt it was so symbolic that he was on the 18th hole," daughter-in-law Trish Harris said.
...was ranked among the top 10 senior amateur golfers in the nation..He won the Southern Seniors Golf Association championship three times--in 1968, 1971 and 1972. ...also a Great Lakes Senior Golf Association and American Golf Association champ...maintained his goal of shoting his age and the before before his death...shot a 77 on the par-72 course...held the unofficial course record of 62.
