- Mollie and William moved to Salina, Kansas in 1888. She was a victim of asthma much of her life, as was her father, Gottlieb, hence the return to Kansas.
Beulah Smith-Hughes recalls visits of Mollie with her half-sister, "Ella" Schofer-Smith (Beulah's mother) at their farm home south of Culver, (Kansas or Colorado, we are unsure). "When Uncle Will was buying livestock in northwest Saline county for the packing house, Aunt Mollie would ride alone to visit Ella. Knowledge of their arrival would be the sight of the horse and buggy coming over the hill east of the farm. These calls were usually during summertine, a busy time on the farm. Nonetheless, Aunt Mollie was a welcome guest and the two sisters had a good visit."
