- Mary Barnett Deal, who could not read or write, was widowed in 1850 at age 42 with eight children at home; in 1860 she had six at home, including a grandson, in 1870, three at home, including a grandson; and lived 1850-1870 in Washington, Putnam, IN, as Head of household.
Mary gave her birthplace as Indiana in 1850 & 1870; as Kentucky in 1860 & 1880. She varied her birth date as well.
She died sometime after 1880 probably while still living with son John E. & Amanda Deal in Harmony, Clay, IN.

This branch of the Deal family of North Carolina is somehow related to the Willis Lawson family of Putnam County, as evidenced by the fact that James Graves (1833-1892) and Mary Barnett Deal (1800-1880) lived in adjacent households in Putnam County, perhaps on land owned by Mary Barnett Deal (1800-1880).
