Notes |
- Ancestry.com, Tritch Family Tree:
"Anthony Keller was born [about] 1710 at the town of Lettweiler, which is in the region of Germany now known as Rheinland-Palatinate (Pfalz). Lettweiler's geographical location is in the current district of Bad Kreuznach, Koblenz, Rheinland-Palatinate (Pfalz), Germany and its geographical coordinates are 49° 44' 0" North, 7° 44' 0" East. The nearest big cities are Mainz and Mannheim, each about 30 miles away. Lettweiler is about 15 miles from the Rhine River and 2 ½ miles from the Nahe River.
Anthony Keller left the Palatinate sometime in the spring of 1740. The trip up the Rhine River took about four to six weeks to reach Rotterdam, Netherlands. Once there, Anthony, his wife (Anna Barbara Schatto Keller), and his three children (Johann Peter, Eliza Katherina, and Johann Nikolaus Keller) boarded the ship LOYAL JUDITH, the very same ship Anna Barbara's father, Johann Niklaus Schatto, boarded exactly one year prior when he immigrated to Philadelphia. The ship sailed from Rotterdam and made a stop in Deal, England to register her cargo (as all ships bound for the English colonies at that time were required to do) before finally crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The trip usually took between two to three months, depending on the oceanographic and environmental conditions encountered enroute. On 25 November, 1740, LOYAL JUDITH docked pierside in Philadelphia."
[Strassburger ed. Hinke, "Pennsylvania German Pioneers, Arrivals 1727-1808" (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing, 1980, 2 v.), v. I pp. 282, 284, 285), does show "Anthony Keller" on the ship "Loyal Judith" and among the oath takers in Philadelphia on 25 November 1840.]
"Anthony's children, Michael, Peter (and his son, Peter), and Eliza Katherine, migrated south to Lincoln County, North Carolina. Peter's other children, Martin, Johannes, Jacob, Christian and Nikolaus, migrated to Burke and Wilkes Counties, North Carolina (the area in which they settled became part of Caldwell County in 1841)."
