"Bernice passed away 24 Jul 2010 at the age of ninety-three. She was born 4 May 1917 in Beloit, Wisconsin and grew up on the Cranston family Centennial Farm. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing, Michigan and volunteered for Ingham County Medical Auxiliary, as well as Mobile Meals and the Lansing Symphony. She was an avid golfer. Surviving are her children, Mary (Keith) Thomas of East Lansing, Thomas (Joan) Hayes of Troy, and Stuart (Ursula) Hayes of Sault St. Marie, ON; grandchildren, Justin, Kenneth, and Laura Thomas; sisters, Norma Schuele and Helen "Wootsie" (Philip) Simmonds; sixteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Robert E. Hayes, M.D. Interment will take place at East Lawn Memory Gardens."
