"Doris McGuff died Sunday, May 18, 2008 in Gulfport, Mississippi, the day before her 80th birthday. She was born May 17, 1928 in Terre Haute, Indiana to Bill and Ruby Deal. Doris graduated with honors from Indiana Central College and taught high school in Franklin, IN.
She married Harry McGuff in 1947. As his educational and administrative duties grew, Doris served as his supportive and social companion. Dr. Harry McGuff created the Evening Division at Indiana Central College and served as the President of the Indianapolis Public Schools Board. He was the second President of Ivy Tech, at that time known as Indiana Vocational Technical College from February 1969 to April 1972. Serving during its formative years, he developed the college toward the formation of Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana. Harry A. McGuff died in 1976.
In 1973, Doris and Harry purchased land on the beach in Gulfport, Mississippi, where Doris operated a business for 17 years. Doris will be sorely missed by her sons, Dennis McGuff and his wife Susan of Gulfport, and David McGuff and his wife Jeannie of Henderson, NV; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Doris was extremely dedicated to her family and enriched many others during her life.
Doris and Harry McGuff were inspiration to Ivy Tech President Emeritus Gerald Lamkin and their many friends of Ivy Tech and in Indianapolis. Interment at Southern Memorial Park on May 22, 2008."
