Notes |
- Find-A-Grave:
"Jacob Bollinger Diehl was born July 17, 1843, the son of Jacob & Rebecca Bollinger Diehl. In 1860, he was a moulder living in York Borough. He stood 5' 5" tall and had brown hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in York with Co. K, 87th Pa Inf, at the rank of private. on January 8, 1862, while in York home apparently on furlough, Diehl and two 87th comrades, John Koons and John List were indicted for aggravated assault and battery. It appears they returned to the army before civilian authorities could put them on trial. (I say that because I can find no record of such a trial.) Discharged March 17, 1863, by order of General Schenck due to a right inguinal hernia he received in May 1862 while working on the roof of a hospital."
