Notes |
- Polly Tomlinson, e-mail 24 Oct 2010:
"My research shows that she was born 7 December, 1873 in Winchester, Frederick, VA. She married William Sahm Tomlinson ca. 20 June, 1899, probably in or near Altoona, PA. She and William were involved in a group that started a Lutheran Church in Altoona, Blair Co., PA. After they married, he became a pastor and served in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky before he stopped being a pastor, after only 7 years. During that time he lost three sons. They moved to Florida where he was killed while working on a construction job. She moved back to Pennsylvania with her one daughter and oldest son, but soon after that her daughter died as well, leaving only her one son, John Walker Tomlinson, my husband's grandfather. She died 14 Nov 1952 from Uremia. She also remarried after she moved back to Altoona, PA to Thomas Elvey (also his second marriage) around 1921."

- Altoona Morning Tribune, Thursday, June 22, 1899:
"TOMLINSON - GIBBONS.
Rev. W. S. Tomlinson, of Pennville, Pa., and Margaret Estella Gibbons, of Altoona, were married on Tuesday evening at 8.30 o'clock by Rev. H. M. Heilman, at the home of the bride, 408 First Avenue, in the presence of a goodly number of relatives and friends. Rev. Tomlinson was formerly a resident of Altoona, employed as a passenger car builder in the Pennsylvania Railroad company's shops.
After taking an academic and theological course he entered the ministry of the United Brethren Church and is now preaching at Pennville, Pa.
The bride is an estimable lady, a faithful member and active worker of the Bethany Lutheran church, and has been one of the most successful teachers in the schools of the city. She was the recipient of many valuable and handsome gifts.
After remaining a week with friends in Altoona Mr. and Mrs. Tomlinson will make their home at Pennville, their present field of labor."
