"Death Calls Mrs. Cowgar
Mrs. Margaret Cowgar, who is said to be the second white child born in the territory of Washington on the White River near Kent, died Wednesday afternoon at the Ladies of the G.A.R. home in Puyallup, where she had resided for the past two months.
Mrs. Cowgar was 80 years old and had spent her entire life in the state. She had been a resident of Tacoma before coming to the home. She was the widow of the late H. H. Cowgar who was a private in Company C, 39th Iowa Volunteer Infantry.
Surviving is an adopted daughter, Mrs. Frank Smith of Sierra Madera, Cal., and a niece, Mrs. J. M. Smith of Tacoma, and a brother, J. H. Thomas of Hillyard, Wash."
