    Notes
    • U.S. Census Franklin, Johnson County, IN 1860: "Pearson T. Taylor, age 26 b. Abt. 1834 Indiana, employed 'engineer on car,'" living in household of his parents. [The first railroad to connect Johnson County with Indianapolis was completed in 1847. (Levering, "Historic Indiana," p. 234)]

U.S. Census Ward 8 (2d Enumeration), Indianapolis, Marion County, IN 1870: "Pierson Taylor, age 36 b. Abt. 1834 Indiana, railroad brakeman, wife Sarah, age 33 b. Abt. 1837 Kentucky." In the same household, five children from three other families: Children of John Burnett & Sarah Abel: "Kate Burnett 13 b. Indiana at school, Ophelia Burnett 9 b. Indiana at home." Children of Benjamin F. & Margaret Davenport: "Greenup Davenport 14 b. Indiana, Mary Davenport, age 21 b. Abt. 1849 Kentucky, at home." Child of Harry G. Fishback & Martha W. Abel: "Ora Fishback, age 3 b. Abt. 1867 Indiana, at home."

[The property evidently was a rooming house that catered to railroad workers, for about twenty-five other individuals were listed as occupants. It is likely that Greenup and Mary Davenport helped with the chores to earn their keep.]

Civil War Pension Index, 1861-1934: "Pierson T. Taylor, Co. F, 7th Inf Regt Indiana, claim filed: 11 Jul 1879 Application # 297308 Certificate # 382656 widow: none minor: none."

U.S. Census Indianapolis, Marion County, IN 14 Jun 1880: "P. [Pierson] T. Taylor, age 46 b. Abt. 1834 Indiana, father b. New Jersey mother b. Kentucky, railroad engineer, married, boarder," in the household of: "Cyres & Bella Bartlet, both B. Ohio, parents b. Ohio."

[Pierson T. Taylor and his wife, Sarah S. Able, were living in different households in Indianapolis; Sarah was listed as "widowed" on 5 Jun 1880, but Pierson was enumerated as "married" on 14 Jun 1880.]
